What is True Health?
Dorland’s Medical Dictionary, along with the World Health Organization, define health as “Optimum physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmities.”
How does one assure that they have the best chance of enjoying ‘well-being’? It begins by having a body that is working as it was designed to work.
Feeling Great
Most people think that how they feel is an indicator of how healthy they are. It’s just not true.
Let’s say you unknowingly eat some spoiled food. Later you get stomach cramps and begin vomiting. You certainly don’t feel well, but thankfully your body is functioning correctly. Imagine the tragic consequences of taking medicine to calm your stomach so as to retain the toxic food!
Functioning Great
Your brain, spinal cord and all of your nerves control and regulate your body. Every cell, tissue, organ and system (even your immune system!) take instructions from your nervous system.
Thus, an important aspect of health is how well your nervous system is orchestrating the workings of your body. That’s why we’re interested in your spinal column. Joint restrictions or fixations among the moving bones of the vertebral column protecting the “Information Superhighway” of your spinal cord can affect your well-being.
Interestingly, some people with a spinal problem discover that other health problems resolve or they see other positive changes during the course of their chiropractic care.
